As part of Carer’s Week 2019 staff and volunteers at Crossroads Care Surrey have been planting and decorating plant pots to raise awareness of the plight of ‘the hidden unpaid carer’ – local unsung heroes who continue to care for loved ones who have a disability or medical condition which means they are not able to look after themselves. Each plant pot represents 1 of 115,000 unpaid carers in Surrey (figures courtesy of 2011 Census)
3 in every 5 people will care for a loved one in a lifetime. As the population continues to grow and as people are living for longer, social care is becoming an enormous financial burden for both national and local government to fund.
We are currently providing Care for more than 900 families so unpaid Carers can access a regular respite break. This break is vital to ensure the Carer is able to maintain their physical health and wellbeing in order to be able to continue caring.
This Carers Week is all about making good connections for carers in their own community. Help us to get #CarersConnected in #Surrey by getting involved. Plant and decorate your own plant pot or please give a small one-off or regular donation to support Carers Week.
If you do plant & decorate a plant pot – please share your pictures with us via our social media platforms
