Volunteer’s Week

Every year, Volunteer’s Week runs from 1-7 June and this special week is a chance for us to celebrate our volunteers and say thanks for working with Crossroads Care Surrey.

Our volunteers provide a vital service in our community and support paid Carer Support workers in our adult clubs across Surrey. They play an active role in providing support to the many people we look after who have disabilities and medical conditions which mean they require care support. Our volunteers can help with companionship, activities including games or art projects, preparing and serving meals and generally helping with ad-hoc tasks.

We give thanks

Thanks to all who support our work to give unpaid Carers a regular respite break. The volunteers who commit to helping in our clubs allow for many unpaid Carers who are waiting to access regular respite support can get help more quickly through our community based clubs for adult and children with disabilities and medical conditions. Up to 5 hours of respite for unpaid Carers is available and affordable because our clubs are supported by both volunteers and grant making organisations.

Could you volunteer?

In addition to working directly with Carers and their loved ones needing care, we are looking to expland our volunteer team – we need volunteer community ambassadors to help us to raise awareness of our work in the community and help us to fundraise or attend community events. We want to recruit volunteers who are happy to talk to local groups and sports associations, schools, the church community and local business about our work encouraging them to be actively involved in our work.

Could you be a Volunteer?

We’re also always on the look out for volunteers with specific skills who may be able to support the charity office function. Do you have a few hours to spare each week to help support our marketing team? The role is varied including research, content development for social media posts, writing copy and generally helping to raise awareness of our work.

Elmbridge Road Runners raise £1,500 for children’s club

Elmbridge Road Runners wanted to do something amazing for the community in and around where they run. They decided to take on a fundraising challenge supporting our children’s club which is based in Walton-on-Thames raising a whopping £1,500. The Saturday Club is for children with disabilities and complex needs providing an opportunity to enjoy space and freedom away from home which is fun and educational – a chance to meet new friends and take part in their community. The children’s club benefits their Carers too, families have space and time outside their caring role to have a much needed break. The Club employs trained playworkers and is regulated by Ofsted.

Many thanks to everyone at Elmbridge Road Runners – you really are a terrific team of fundraisers!
